Transforming Breast Cancer Care

Through Innovation, Collaboration and Education

IBDK is a non-profit institution addressing inequities in breast cancer care across India and other low- and middle-income countries. Through research, education, and patient-centered innovation, we strengthen early detection, appropriate treatment, and continuity of care. Our work is guided by a simple principle: breast cancer outcomes should be shaped by evidence and equity—not by access, income, or geography.

Director’s Message

Dr. Soumen Das

Founding Director, Institute of Breast Diseases, Kolkata

Cancer should never be a verdict written by one’s poverty or postcode. Yet, for millions in lowand middle-income countries, the barriers of cost and access remain as lethal as the disease itself. Every individual – regardless of geography, income, or social standing – deserves the dignity of timely, quality care.

The Institute of Breast Diseases, Kolkata (IBDK) was born from this conviction. We exist to challenge the systemic disparities that define cancer care in LMICs and to develop solutions forged in thecrucible of resource constraints. History has shown that innovation emerging from scarcity often sets the standard for progress. We hope the answers we discover here can change the trajectory of cancer care everywhere.
