About Us
Who We Are
The Institute of Breast Diseases, Kolkata (IBDK) is a non-profit organisation working to improve breast cancer outcomes in India and other low- and middle-income countries.
Breast cancer is now the most common cancer among Indian women, yet systems designed to detect and treat it early often fail those who need them most. Late diagnosis, fragmented care, lack of standardised protocols, and unaffordable treatment continue to drive poor outcomes.
IBDK was founded to address these systemic gaps. Our work is rooted in the belief that cancer care should be guided by evidence, equity, and dignity — not by geography, income, or access.
Rather than operating as a charity-only model, we focus on rigorous research, scalable solutions, and system-level interventions. Our approach integrates early detection, navigation, training, and innovation to strengthen breast cancer care across resource-constrained settings.
Our Team
Led by Dr. Soumen Das, surgical oncologist and Director of IBDK, the team’s collective vision has shaped the institute into a hub of innovation and community-responsive care.
IBDK’s strength lies in its collective — united by the shared goal of delivering equitable, cutting-edge breast health solutions.
